Step 1. Balance makes CONTROL

Water balance is important for many reasons. Balanced water will allow your sanitizers to work more efficiently to eliminate bacteria and germs. Balanced water will protect equipment and will contribute to brilliant looking water. When water is in balance it is more comfortable for swimmers and bathers, unpleasant odors are virtually eliminated, and sore eyes and itchy skin are less likely to occur.

Step 7, shown below, highlights the ideal balance parameters to maintain in the water so the pool will look great short and long term. All the products that help in maintaining water balance can be found in the Balancer section

Step 2. Sanitize to keep water CLEAN

Properly sanitized water looks good, feels great, and has no odors. However, if not properly sanitized, bacteria, algae, and organic wastes can build up in pool water. If this happens, pool and spa water can turn cloudy and uncomfortable, an unpleasant odor can even occur. Caribbean Blue & Spa by Haviland offers many options for chlorinating and brominating your water. If needed, your local dealer can help you decide which sanitizer method is best for you and your water. See all the items that will help keep water clean and clear in the Sanitizers section.

Step 3. Shock will keep water CLEAR

While the pools and spa are in use, the water collects a various number of contaminants. Some of these contaminants can include:, body oils, cosmetics, suntan lotion, and other swimmer and organic wastes. Outdoor pools, on top of these things, collect other materials from the environment like pollen and dust. Build-up of any of these contaminants can make water cloudy and cause unpleasant odors. These contaminants can interfere with the sanitizer resulting in slow water disinfection and algae growth.

Caribbean Blue and Spa by Haviland offers a variety of products to remove these contaminants from the water. These products will also help to revitalize the sanitizer that is already in the water. Typically, these products are called oxidizers or shock treatments and should be added at least once a week. Shocking pool and spa water is also recommended after a heavy rain or when the pool has been heavily used. If needed, your local dealer can help you decide which oxidizer is best for you and your body of water. All the items which will help maintain beautiful water are in the Shockssection.

Step 4. Keep algae away WEEKLY

Algae is among the top concerns for any pool owner or operator. These microscopic plants come into your pool from rain, wind, and animals. What starts as a virtually invisible invader can turn your pool into a slimy green mess overnight. This mess does not necessarily have to be green, algae comes in many colors such as black, pink, brown, or yellow. Fortunately spa owners typically do not need to worry about algae as their spas are always well covered from outside conditions.

What most pool owners do not know is that their pool water is almost always infested with algae. Usually, only when pool owners see algae in the water do they think they have a problem. Luckily, Caribbean Blue has several ways to control algae and potential outbreaks. All the items which will help keep algae away can be found in our Algaecides section.

Step 5. Enhance to make water care EASY

Regardless if you have a pool or spa, there are several ways you can decrease the amount of time you need to tend to the water

For the pool Caribbean Blue Forever Clear Enhancer will help maintain water balance, so you will spend less time testing and adding product into the pool. Forever Clear Enhancer will reduce the time you will spend performing maintenance on your filter. Not only will caring for the pool be easier, but the look and feel of the water will be second to none. Forever Clear Enhancerr is a product that solves problems before they start with an easy initial treatment. In many pools it may be added only once at the beginning of the season with no additional treatments needed. .

Step 6. Maintenance makes it all work BETTER

Water needs to circulate 12 hours or more in order for the pool to be clear and free from contaminants. When water is moving it is harder for bacteria, algae, and other contaminants to cause issues in your pool. Circulation allows your filter to trap visible and invisible materials that have entered the pools water. Eventually the collected matter will need to be removed and cleaned from the filter. Though the manufacture will have their own recommendations on filter maintenance, all will agree that a maintenance cleaner, such as Caribbean Blue Filter Magic should be used periodically.

No matter how often you circulate and filter the water, some material cannot be removed without your interference. Periodically, the pool will need to be vacuumed to remove visible debris in the water. Even if the water looks fantastic, or if you use an automatic pool cleaner, the pool walls need to be brushed at least once a week. Brushing the pool will move microscopic organism off surfaces so they can be filtered out of the water and consumed by water treatment products.
